New Fitbit Versa 2 Leak Confirms Alexa Integration, 4-Day Battery, And More

Fitbit Versa 2 is coming and new leaks reveal a slew of new features that make it an appealing upgrade from the first generation smartwatch.

Two different sources provide Fitbit enthusiasts a general picture of what to expect in the new version of Versa that is reportedly slated to be announced on Sunday, Aug. 25. The release of the new model is expected to be on Sunday, Sept. 15.

New Versa 2 To Feature Amazon's Alexa

OLX Bulgaria published a set of images of a Fitbit Versa 2 retail box that listed a number of features of the upcoming smartwatch, including Amazon's Alexa voice assistant.

The Alexa integration indicates that the next iteration of the Fitbit smartwatch will be the brand's first model to feature a microphone.

However, since the images from OLX were only from the product's box, they don't elaborate how Alexa will work as a built-in component of Fitbit Versa 2.

Tizen Help shed more light on the Amazon Alexa integration with the first leaked images from the Versa 2 manual guide. The photos include graphics that showed the upcoming smartwatch being used for messaging, checking the weather, setting a timer, and turning lights on and off.

These images provide more insight on Alexa's role in the new smartwatch, but the functions are focused on basic conveniences and do not reveal how advanced the voice assistant will be in Fitbit Versa 2.

Other Fitbit Versa 2 Features

Aside from the Alexa integration, the other features that appear on the Versa 2 retail box are not a huge leap from the original Versa.

Just like the first generation smartwatch, the Versa 2 includes over four days of battery life, Fitbit Pay, music storage and playback, heart rate monitoring, and 18 exercise modes, among others. Its design, as seen on the box, also looks extremely similar to the first Fitbit Versa.

However, the leaks show no indication of a GPS feature in the new version of Versa. While the original model can connect to a smartphone's GPS, it doesn't boast the feature on its own, which means runners, hikers, and cyclists will need to bring their phones if they want their workout and distance tracked. Fitbit Ionic is the brand's option for consumers who are looking for a GPS feature.

Despite the missing GPS, Fitbit Versa 2 is a welcome addition to the brand, following in the footsteps of the Versa and recently released Versa Lite.
