Asus, ever the envelope-pushing company when it comes to gaming-related gear, has unveiled two new unique gaming monitors as part of its latest crop of hardware.
The first is called the ZenScreen Touch, a 15.6-inch 1080p touchscreen that can be hooked up to smartphone or laptops. With this, users can blow up certain apps and more easily operate complex user interfaces thanks to the larger screen. It comes equipped with a 7,800 mAh battery, and includes a protective case that folds up into a kickstand.
The main event, however, is the new ROG Strix XG17 gaming monitor, a 1080p display with a refresh rate of 240 Hz that's totally portable, which makes it the first of its kind in the world. More specifically, it boasts a 17.3-inch IPS panel, which also supports variable refresh rates. Why anyone would want to move a massive display around is a discussion for another day.
The World's First Portable 240 Hz Monitor
The ROG Strix XG17 is a pretty modern gaming monitor, complete with two USB-C ports, a Micro HDMI port, and, similar to its sibling, a 7,800 mAh battery. Asus says that's good for three hours at 240 Hz on a single charge. If it runs out, users can rely on the built-in Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology. The monitor will last longer at lower refresh rates, of course. It's perfect for Nintendo Switch players who prefer gaming on the go but find the screen too small. The more demanding options, meanwhile, cater to audiences who prefer maxing out refresh rates when playing hardcore games.
There are stereo speakers on the monitor itself, so no need to hook up speakers for audio. Asus did not share any of the finer specs, including brightness rating, color gamut, or even physical dimensions. The only clear thing as of this writing is its refresh rate, obviously, and that the panel has a 3ms response time.
ZenScreen Touch And ROG Strix XG17 Release Date
Asus has yet to share pricing on both the ZenScreen Touch and ROG Strix XG17, but the former should be out as soon as next month, while the latter is due out sometime later this year. In any case, make sure to check back with Tech Times as we learn more.
