For those of you who opened up a PlayStation 4 on Christmas Day, last week was rough. With the PlayStation Network suffering from a DDoS attack, most of the system's best features were rendered completely unusable. The consoles could still play games and movies, but anything requiring online connectivity was down. This included Sony's massive Holiday and Flash Sales.
With the PlayStation Store shut down, there was no way to access any of the deals from Sony's consoles. Considering sales only really work when people can actually buy the products, the Holiday Sale likely didn't go as well as Sony expected. Thankfully, the PlayStation Network is recovering, and that includes the PlayStation Store. After days without access, gamers can finally take advantage of the sale. It's just a shame that players lost a week's worth of deals...
Not so fast: due to popular demand, Sony has officially extended the Holiday Sale until Jan. 6, while the Flash Sale will be extended until Dec. 31.
The Flash Sale focuses almost entirely on newer games, such as Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Dragon Age: Inquisition. It's not often that games as new as these receive a discount, and at $45, these are the best prices out there. It's not a small list, either: Destiny, Tales from the Borderlands, NHL 15 and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor are all just the tip of the iceberg.
The Holiday Sale has a wider breadth of content, including TV shows and movies like Sons of Anarchy, Arrow and X-Men: Days of Future Past. That's not to say that there aren't any games on offer; titles like WWE 2k15, Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and Battlefield 4 are all heavily discounted as well.
Given all that's happened over the past week, it makes a lot of sense for Sony to extend its holiday offerings, not only because it'll help bring in some extra cash, but extending the sales also shows that Sony is willing to go out of its way when something goes wrong, even if it's not the publisher's fault.
Even so, there's not a whole lot of time left, so make sure to take advantage before these sales end!
