More Than 91.6 Million PS4 Units Sold As Of 2018, Sony Says

Sony proudly announced that it has sold more than 91.6 million PlayStation 4 systems until Dec. 31, 2018, with 5.6 million of that number coming from holiday sales.

In a press release, Sony revealed its newest milestone for its popular gaming console, the PS4, which is well on its fifth year in the market. The company also revealed that units sold from Nov. 19 to Dec. 31 greatly helped boost the sales up.

Impressive 2018 PS4 Unit Sales

For the past 12 months, there were 18 million PS4 units purchased, which is a wee bit short than 2017's figures, 20.2 million. Still, the impressive sales smash initial predictions of Sony official John Kodera that the demand for the brand's gaming system will start to wane particularly because it was reaching its saturation point.

Meanwhile, Sony is also rejoicing for the number of PS4 games sold both physically and digitally during the holiday season, totaling 50.7 million titles. As of Dec. 31, there were now 876 million physical and digital games bought by owners worldwide since the console's release in 2013.

The newly released game, Marvel's Spider-Man, which was only launched a couple of months ago, was gaining popularity among other titles. Sony announced there were already 9 million copies sold from September to Nov. 25, and in the first three days of the game, gamers already bought 3.3 million copies.

That's not all, Sony also said it now has 90 million active users per month as of November last year, which is 10 million more than the last figure announced in May 2018. Because of all these, the tech company expressed its gratitude for the continued patronage of their products and the executive even promised more games exclusively for the PS4.

"As we look toward the next PS4 milestone, SIE will continue to evolve, and we will further expand the platform to deliver the best interactive entertainment experiences to the world," Kodera said.
