There are three things everyone expects to see at a New Year's Eve party: fireworks, friends and expensive champagne. It's one of the few times that people have an excuse to actually drink champagne, so more often than not, people ring the New Year in with something fancy, like Cristal, as opposed to their regular prefered booze.
Of course, if you're feeling like uncorking the champagne is too routine for your New Year's Eve party, you could always try something new - for instance, the folks over at FullMag decided to open up their champagne with a high-caliber sniper rifle as opposed to a corkscrew:
To be perfectly honest, blasting the top half of the bottle into smithereens probably isn't the best way to open it, especially if you actually want to drink its contents. Even so, it's amazing to watch the bottle shatter into little pieces and foam up - it's almost as festive as fireworks! Just remember to have all of your permits up to date, as gunfire tends to draw out the police...
In all seriousness, this is clearly something that no one should try at home. The rifle used in the video is .50 caliber, meaning that the bullet is absolutely massive. Most bullets are typically small (despite the damage they can cause), but .50 caliber bullets are nearly six inches long - they can, and will, absolutely decimate anything in their path, and should not be trifled with.
That being said, when used in a controlled, safe environment like the one in the video, the bullet's power is certainly impressive. Who knew that high-powered rifles could be so festive?
