Disappearing texts shouldn't be a problem that occurs on a phone that costs nearly a thousand bucks, yet that's exactly what's happening with the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.
A while back, several Pixel 3 owners took to Reddit to report about messages on their device suddenly disappearing for no apparent reason.
Pixel 3 Disappearing Texts
"I was getting ready for work yesterday and I grabbed my phone to text someone and noticed that all of my messages were erased," one Reddit user complained. "I had 2 years of messages that had transferred over from my OG Pixel to my new Pixel 3 and no problems at all."
"This just happened to me. My messages all of a sudden started sending to people other than the person I had intended to message," another user chimed in. "They would open like one massive group text. Then they all just disappeared. I'm a bit pissed."
The severity of the problem seems to vary. Some users report only individual messages have gone missing, while others say entire chat threads have suddenly disappeared without any sort of warning. Affected users are still trying to ponder what's causing the issue.
Photos And Texts Disappearing From Pixel 3
Bear in mind that this is separate from an entirely different problem where photos, instead of texts, have randomly been disappearing as well. Be it photos or texts, having content suddenly removed with no warning or clear explanation is a pretty terrible experience — especially on a phone that's billed as one of the best customers can get this year.
At the time of writing, it's still not clear what's causing the issue, or just how widespread it is. Some of those affected speculate that the November Android security update might be to blame, although others say their messages vanished even before the update rolled out. Some have found luck retrieving their lost texts, however. As 9to5Google notes, rolling the Android Messages app back to an earlier version seems to do the trick, but it's not always guaranteed to work for every user.
Fix To Be Released Soon, Google Says
For its part, Google has acknowledged the issue and says a solution would be arriving soon.
"We recently discovered a bug affecting SMS/MMS on a small number of Pixel 3s and are rolling out a fix soon," according to a Google spokesperson.
