Motorola One Is An Android One Phone With A Notch For $399

Motorola is launching its latest Android One handset in the United States on Nov. 11 for $399, exclusively on Best Buy. Online orders for the Motorola One begin Nov. 9 and in-store purchases start Nov. 11. All units are GSM-unlocked, meaning the handset will work on any compatible U.S. network.

It doesn't take a genius to see that Motorola went great lengths to emulate the look and feel of the iPhone X — its handset even has a similarly sized notch. Motorola One does, however, sport a considerable chin, unlike the uniform bezels on the device it's trying to copy. It features a 5.9-inch display with a resolution of 1,520 x 720, just par for the course being that it's a mid-range device. As such, the rest of the specs sheet shouldn't surprise anyone.

Motorola One Specs

There's a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor underneath and 64 GB of onboard storage. That's paired with 4 GB of RAM, which, for a mid-range device, is pretty rare and impressive. There's a 13 MP + 2 MP dual rear camera system, and on the front is an 8-megapixel selfie shooter.

Keeping everything juiced is a respectable 3,000 mAh battery. Although the phone has no waterproofing, as usually is the case with devices in this price range, it does sport a special form of nano-coating to protect against spills or light rain. The headphone jack is the cherry on top. No wireless charging, though. Again, just part for the course considering the price point.

Android One

The most crucial spec of the Motorola One, of course, is its software. It's running Android One, which means users are guaranteed a steady stream of updates for at least several years. Motorola even claims that the device, which runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, will receive the Android 9 Pie update and even Android Q. What's more, the phone is also guaranteed three years' worth of security updates.

To top it all off, Motorola's custom Android skin is already pretty close to actual stock Android, so folks looking for that experience should be pleased with this phone. Plus, some of Motorola's signature tweaks and shortcuts are also included on the Motorola One.

No mention of the fancier Motorola One Power model, though. That one sports a 6.2-inch screen, a slightly more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, better cameras, and a whopping 5,000 mAh battery. Make sure to check back with Tech Times as we learn more.
