Samsung's 85-inch 8K TV is now available for preorder to customers in the United States, though only a fraction of consumers may be willing to buy it given the whopping price tag.
The 85-inch 8K TV represents the continuous development of TV technology, as companies keep going for sharper and bigger screens. Is it worth the price though?
Samsung 85-Inch 8K TV Open For Preorders
Samsung unveiled the Q900R QLED 8K series a few months ago, with the line offering four sizes of 65 inches, 75 inches, 82 inches, and 85 inches. The Samsung 8K TV was announced alongside LG's own 8K TV offering.
Now, Samsung has opened preorders for the 8K TVs, including the 85-inch version, with the shipping date set for Oct. 28. The price tag is not for the faint of heart though, as the Samsung 85-inch 8K TV is being sold for $15,000.
The TV is said to come with an 8K AI Upscaling feature that uses artificial intelligence and the powerful Samsung Quantum Processor to upscale videos to resemble 8K content. It also offers extremely sharp resolution, vivid colors, and high brightness, which is all actually expected if customers would be paying $15,000 for it.
Is The Samsung 85-Inch 8K TV Worth It?
At $15,000, the 85-inch 8K TV by Samsung is definitely an expensive item, and buying it may equate to nothing more than bragging rights. This is because 8K content is quiet rare, as creators have not yet even started maximizing the possibilities of 4K content.
In addition, the massive price tag is set to rapidly decline in the next few years. It can be remembered that 4K TVs used to cost $20,000 each, but they can now be purchased at over $1,000, and even going well below that in last year's Black Friday. It is widely expected that 8K TVs will follow that same trend.
For those with lots of spare cash, and the desire to brag about owning an 8K TV, Samsung is offering a 36-month payment plan at $415.70 each for the $15,000 device. That is still very steep, but for those who really, really want Samsung's 85-inch 8K TV, the option is there.
