DC Comics and Warner Bros. have found more celebrities to complete its female superhero team in the upcoming movie Birds of Prey.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and 10 Cloverfield Lane actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead has been tapped to portray Huntress. Additionally, True Blood actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell will be playing Black Canary.
About The Upcoming 'Birds Of Prey' Film
The two will be joining actress Margot Robbie who will be returning to her role as Harley Quinn. Robbie first played the role in the 2016 box office hit Suicide Squad. She will also be producing the new comic book spinoff together will Bryan Unkeless and Sue Kroll.
The film will be focusing on a villainous gang of female heroes. Aside from Harley Quinn, Huntress, and Black Canary, it will also feature Renee Montoya, and Cassandra Cain, who have yet to be cast. They will be fighting Black Mask. The film is set to be co-written by Christina Hodson, and directed by According To My Mother director Cathy Yan.
The characters from Birds of Prey are a recent addition the the DC universe, compared to other characters which have been around for more than 50 years. The Birds were initially a two-piece that first appeared in Black Canary/Oracle: Birds of Prey No.1 which was published in 1995.
Many characters from the series have come and go. Although it has mostly female birds, there have also been male ones. The squad is led by Black Canary and Barbara Gordon. Gordon usually appears in her Oracle or Batgirl persona.
Despite the success of both Harley Quinn and characters from Birds of Prey, the two has no direct connection in the comics. However, both belong in the Batman mythos indirectly and are tagged as the powerful female leads on DC.
Furthermore, Sharlto Copley and award-winning star Ewan McGregor have also been rumored to be joining the cast. The news about the film's cast members comes after a string of events concerning DC made headlines.

Reports suggest that The Batman is having script revision at the moment and will be starting its production on summer next year. Additionally, Will Smith has announced that he is open to play Deadshot again. Deadshot also appeared in Suicide Squad together with Harley Quinn.
To add, Joaquin Phoenix will be playing Joker in a movie that would not belong to the DC extended universe. Despite this, Jared Leto will still be playing the infamous character in standalone movies. Notably, DC is looking for someone to replace Henry Cavill to portray the role of Superman.
