If you're looking for something special and extraordinary to give yourself this holiday season, you might want to gift yourself a 24-karat gold, engraved iPad Air.
You may have already seen or read about gold embellished iPads in the past but none of them is like the 24-karat gold iPad Air created by the folks at Computer Choppers. This particular iPad is intricately polished, engraved and machine cut with a black acrylic layer to match the black Apple logo. "About the only step we left out was diamonds in the entire thing," says Computer Choppers in a blog post.
The luxurious iPad Air (128GB) sells at $5,000 each but if you're really intent in getting one, you might as well make the purchase soon. The device is available in extremely limited quantities and only a few will be sold each year. If you don't act now, somebody rich and powerful might grab the last available stock sooner than you do.
The limited supply is apparently due to the intricacy of customizing the device. The makers claim that the amount of time and labor needed in making just one of these devices can be ridiculous being more of a test of skills and new equipment than anything else. Creating the luxurious gadget can be a source of bragging rights though.
"There is nothing like a little competition to get us working on some extreme customizations for our ADEMOV brand products. Rather than polish another Gold iPad (like you've seen from us many times), we decided to up the ante a little bit to show everyone who creates the baddest luxury electronics on the planet," Computer Choppers said.
Gold is rare and valuable and it has always been considered as a symbol of luxury and privilege from the ancient days of the pharaohs until today's digital age of gadgets and gizmos. In Dubai, for example, the self-proclaimed world's most-luxurious hotel Burj Al Arab provides its guests with a gold iPad, "the ultimate in luxury accessories" that they can use during their stay. Burj Al Arab does this to make itself stand out from its competitors.
