Seetroën Glasses By Citroën Will Eliminate Motion Sickness, But With An Obvious Downside

A new pair of glasses created by engineers from automobile manufacturer Citroën will eliminate motion sickness after being worn for just 10 minutes, but they will come with a pretty obvious downside.

Motion sickness, one of the issues that need to be addressed by virtual reality technology, remains a pressing problem in real life. There have been some extreme solutions, such as applying mild shocks to the head, but Citroën claims that its new product will cure motion sickness.

Seetroën Glasses As Motion Sickness Remedy

Motion sickness happens whenever the human brain receives conflicting reports on perceived motion from the eyes and inner ear. It is usually experienced whenever a person looks down at a smartphone or tablet while in a moving vehicle.

Engineers from Citroën claim that they have created the perfect way on how to stop motion sickness with the Seetroën glasses. The glasses use the Boarding Ring technology, which was created by the French start-up of the same name, to prevent its wearers from suffering from motion sickness.

The principle of Seetroën and the Boarding Ring technology is that with the moving liquid in rings framing the wearer's eyes, the glasses recreate the horizon line to address the conflict within a person's senses that causes motion sickness.

Seetroën Glasses Not Pretty To Look At

The Seetroën glasses were designed by Paris-based studio 5.5, which used white soft-touch plastic and a simple ergonomic style for the product.

However, the design of the Seetroën glasses is not exactly what many would call fashionable. It may be considered bizarre, with four holes in total instead of the usual two, looking like the gimmick eyewear usually seen during New Year celebrations.

Fortunately, wearers will not have to wear the Seetroën glasses for their entire trip. They will only have to stare at an unmoving object, such as the smartphone or tablet causing the motion sickness in the first place, for about 10 to 12 minutes. According to Citroën, this is enough time for the brain to make the necessary adjustments and stop motion sickness. Afterward, the Seetroën glasses may be taken off.

Will The Seetroën Glasses Work?

Perhaps the more important scrutiny against the Seetroën glasses is whether or not they will actually work, as there is no scientific evidence to support Citroën's claim.

Citroën is selling the Seetroën glasses though its online lifestyle store for €99, or about $116. The jury is still out regarding their effectiveness, but if they do really work, they will be welcome additions to long trips for everyone suffering badly from motion sickness.
