OnePlus Promises 2 Years Of Software Updates And 3 Years Of Security Patches Effective Immediately

Good news, OnePlus owners! The company is promising two years of software updates and three years of security patches going forward.

OnePlus grew tremendously in the last few years by offering "flagship killers" with top specs and affordable prices, but one of the main concerns about its handsets has been software support. OnePlus discontinued smartphones after just one year and some didn't get their promised software updates when they should have.

The company is now addressing this matter at last, in a manner that should make OnePlus' current and future owners quite satisfied. OnePlus just announced its official Software Maintenance Schedule and it brings great news for the community.

OnePlus Software Updates

According to the latest maintenance schedule, OnePlus smartphones will get regular software updates for two years since their release and three years of Android security patches released every couple of months. The regular security updates will include new Android versions, features, bug fixes, and anything in-between, and will also apply to T versions of smartphones.

This software update maintenance schedule applies effective immediately to the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, and OnePlus 6.

The OnePlus 3 already hit the two-year mark and the OnePlus 3T is getting close to it, but they will still receive one more Open Beta and regular OTA updates until November. The Android security patches will keep coming for another year after the regular software updates stop.

This means that the last feature update will hit the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T in November, and that's it - just security patches from there on.

New OnePlus 3 And OnePlus 3T Open Beta Incoming

OnePlus also says that it's getting ready to release the last Open Beta build for the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T later this week, and a stable version for beta testers to flash back to will roll out in early July.

It can take a while for new OxygenOS to reach devices, but the Open Beta is crucial to the quality of the experience. The program grants early access to Android versions, features, and more, to those willing to try out unstable versions before they're fine-tuned for public release.

The feedback, bug reports, and suggestions from beta testers help OnePlus fix issues, patch bugs and improve the experience where necessary so that the public OxygenOS release is properly optimized and bug-free.

All future OnePlus smartphones will benefit from this software maintenance schedule with two years of updates and an extra year of security patches on top of that.
