Actress Linda Hamilton is reprising her iconic role as Sarah Conor in the next Terminator film. The film will be a direct sequel to the 1991 film, Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
She'll Be Back
Hamilton was pictured on set in Madrid, Spain location for the next Terminator film. She was seen wearing a bulletproof vest and aviator sunglasses. Not only will Hamilton be returning the classic series, actor Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise his role as The Terminator and director James Cameron will co-produce the 2019 film.
This marks the first time Cameron, Hamilton, and Schwarzenegger reunited since T2. Cameron stated about Hamilton's return as Sarah Connor is a "huge statement" to have the seasoned warrior Connor has become return.
"There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys, but there isn't an example of that for women," Cameron stated.
Cameron will regain the rights to the Terminator series in 2019. Deadpool director, Tim Miller, will direct the film and David Ellison, CEO of Skydance Media, will also co-produce the film.
The Terminator Legacy
In the 2019 film, Cameron states that the characters from the original film will be "passing the baton" to new characters. The film will ignore the subsequent films and television shows that featured an alternate timeline. Also starring in the film will be Diego Boneta, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna, and Mackenzie Davis.
The first Terminator film, which premiered in 1984, followed Schwarzenegger's character on the hunt of Sarah Conor, as she would give birth to her son John Connor, who would one day become the savior against machines in a post-apocalyptic world.
The second film followed Sarah and her 10-year-old John, who was portrayed by Edward Furlong, being chased by a more advanced terminator that wants to kill John. Schwarzenegger's character was also sent back in the second film, but as John's protector.
In 2015, the reboot, Terminator Genisys, was released that starred Schwarzenegger reprising his role as The Terminator and Emilia Clarke as Sarah Conor. In this film, Kyle Resse, portrayed by Jai Courtney, travels back in time to save Sarah, however, he arrives to see the timeline had been altered, and Sarah was protected by the Terminator since she was 9-years-old.
The sequel to the Genisys version of the Terminator series was canceled due to poor box-office sales.
