The eighth season of American Horror Story will bring together two of the most iconic storylines in the history of the series: Season 1's Murder House and Season 3's Coven.
The upcoming season will be a crossover of both, creator Ryan Murphy has just confirmed. Murder House told the story of a family who moves into a new mansion that's plagued by the ghosts of its former residents. Coven followed a girl sent to a special academy in New Orleans upon learning she's a witch.
The 'American Horror Story' Crossover We've All Been Waiting For
"The Coven/Murder House AHS crossover season won't be happening next year...because it's happening THIS YEAR. AHS #8 WITCHES RULE THIS SEPTEMBER," said Murphy on Twitter.
Murphy has previously said that series mainstays including Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Kathy Bates will have significant roles in Season 8. Paulson played Billie Dean Howard in Murder House, a role she reprised in the show's fifth season, Hotel. She also portrayed Cordelia Foxx in Coven. Peters, meanwhile, played Tate Langdon in Murder House and Kyle Spencer in Coven. Bates wasn't in Murder House, though — she made her series debut in Coven as Madame Delphine LaLaurie.
Murphy has always been secretive about the storyline of each season, and this crossover is no exception. However, he had previously said that Season 8 would take place in the "near-distant future."
"You will see so many fan favorites return that you'll feel like it's The Love Boat. It's a very high concept. It's a season unlike anything we've done because there's a big hook to it. There's a huge thing that happens in episode five."
Rumors say it's going to be called American Horror Story: Radioactive.
American Horror Story
American Horror Story is a horror anthology series created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. While each season tells a completely different story, much of the cast stays the same, which explains why Paulson, Peters, and a number of other actors have played various roles in the show's run.
The current season, called Cult, ended in November. It explored the political divide in America amid President Donald Trump's election. The upcoming season will mark the first major crossover of the series, but it won't be the first time audiences have seen characters from different seasons interacting with each other. In Coven, Queenie, played by Gabourey Sidibe, checked into Hotel. Paulson, as her Coven character Lana Winters, interviewed a survivor in the show's sixth season, Roanoke.
