This upcoming season of American Horror Story is going to be scariest yet.
Showrunner and co-creator Ryan Murphy announced the theme for AHS, season 7 will be based on the 2016 presidential election.
Murphy revealed the the big news for the next installment of his anthology series on Wednesday's episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
Tight lipped about details last season, this news seemed to shock even host Andy Cohen. However, Murphy did previously state that he would be revealing theme this time around, and that it will be set in the modern time.
When asked to give American Horror Story news, Murphy dropped the bombshell, but said this season doesn't have a title just yet.
"The season that we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through," Murphy stated. "So I think that will be interesting for a lot of people."
Interesting is to say the least.
When asked if this means there will be a President Trump character, Murphy said "maybe."
For many, the thought alone that seasons 7's storyline could possibly feature Trump is terrifying.
Considering how much of a circus the recent presidential election was, it only seems fitting that Murphy would choose to incorporate it somehow into his latest storyline.
While we don't know if a Trump character will be included, we do know that Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will be returning again.
American Horror Story, season 7 was confirmed back in October.
"AHS confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style. Each new installment is a cultural event, hotly anticipated for its theme, imagery, cast, and twists. We Thank the creators and their team, the cast and everyone who has continued to make AHS such an extraordniary series," FX CEO John Landgraf said.
But this is the first major news surrounding the new storyline.
The election theme might come to a surprise to many who assumed that next season would have a cruise ship theme that has been rumored for quite some time now. The official Twitter account for AHS previously tweeted a video of the sea that included the Blair Witch Project-like stick figures from season 6's Roanoke, which fans thought also hints at a crossover.
Season 7 might have The Purge: Election Year vibes, but fans can also look forward to a Coven and Murder House crossover season in the future. This won't be included in the next season, but the series has been renewed for two more seasons after this election-themed season on FX.
