Finnish company HMD Global, which holds the rights to launch Nokia-branded smartphones, has just released three new Nokia Android devices that offer good value for money.
The affordable smartphone market has greatly evolved in recent years and budget handsets now have more to offer. The latest Nokia smartphones are part of this category, as the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1, and Nokia 5.1 bring some premium aspects to the budget segment of the market.
Nokia 2.1 Specs, Features, Price
The new Nokia 2.1 comes as a refresh of the Nokia 2. Just like its predecessor, it delivers a solid two-day battery life on a single charge thanks to its 4,000 mAh battery.
The Nokia 2.1 now has a 5.5-inch display, 20 percent bigger than that of the Nokia 2, with an HD resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. Under the hood, the device packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of storage.
Just 4 GB of storage will be actually available to the user, but the smartphone runs Android Oreo Go, which is specifically designed for smartphones with low storage and specs. Android Oreo Go apps are lighter and more compact, so they don't need as much storage space as fully-fledged Android apps.
The Nokia 2.1 also features microSD support, so users can just add a memory card for extra storage space. The handset will target emerging markets mostly, launching in July at a $115 price point.
Nokia 3.1 Specs, Features, Price
The Nokia 3 succeeds the original Nokia 3, which has been a hit for HMD. The refreshed model features a 5.2-inch HD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, an octa-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM, and 16 GB or 32 GB of native storage space.
Other specs include a 13-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front shooter with a wide-angle lens, an aluminum frame, and a 2,990 mAh battery. The device runs Android One, which guarantees a secure and up-to-date experience for three years, with monthly security updates.
The Nokia 3.1 is set to go on sale in June starting at $160 for the base model with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage, and roughly $195 for the version with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage.
Nokia 5.1 Specs, Features, Price
Lastly, the Nokia 5.1 comes with a sleek design, a 5.5-inch display with a full HD+ resolution, an 18:9 aspect ratio, and a pixel density of 443 ppi. The smartphone packs an octa-core MediaTek processor clocked at 2 GHz, 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB or 32 GB of storage, microSD card support for up to 128 GB of additional storage, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
Other specs include a better 16-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens front shooter, up to 19 hours of talk time, and up to 9.4 hours of 1080p video playback. On the software front, the Nokia 5.1 runs Android One.
The smartphone will launch in July starting at roughly $218 for the base version with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage space, going up to $252 for the model with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage.
