HTC has confirmed that it will not be shipping the HTC U12+ with a USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter in the United States.
HTC U12+ Won't Come With USB-C To 3.5mm Headphone Adapter
Last week, HTC announced the HTC U12+ and the flagship device, a follow-up to last year's U11, is already available for preorder for a hefty $800.
For that price, one can expect that even though the phone lacks a headphone jack, HTC would at least include an adapter in the box for 3.5mm headphones. However, HTC is cheaping out on the accessories.
HTC confirmed on Twitter that the U12+ will not ship with a 3.5mm to USB-C adapter in the box. However, it does still include a charger, a clear case, and a pair of wired USB-C USonic headphones. If one is interested in using their 3.5 mm headphones with the U12+, they will have to purchase the adapter separately for $12 a piece.
Wow! We'd like to thank you and congratulate you in advance for your upcoming HTC U12 , Aaroni. However, it does not come with a headphone adapter. It includes, HTC Rapid Charger 3.0 with USB Type-C Cable, HTC Clear Case, & HTC USonic™ Adaptive Earphones. Thank you :) — HTC USA (@HTCUSA) May 26, 2018
HTC Shipping Headphone Adapter With U12+ In Europe
HTC may have confirmed the lack of a headphone adapter with the U12+ in the United States but it seems that the Americans are getting the raw end of the deal, as users in Europe are getting the adapter for free with every U12+ purchase.
After the official HTC USA Twitter handle responded to a user post regarding the inclusion of the headphone adapter, another user posted a screenshot of the European website. He noticed that the headphone adapter was automatically included when the device was added to the cart at no additional cost.
See for yourself: Placing the phone in your cart automatically adds an adapter. Not in the US store nor amazon though... pic.twitter.com/iW1e8UNRvn — Aaroni Grantoni (@KarthXLR) May 26, 2018
One reason why HTC is not shipping the adapter with the box in the United States is that it could be testing the waters before removing the adapter from all future flagship phones. It makes sense for the company to test it in a few markets before taking a call.
The HTC U12+ 64 GB variant is priced at $799 while the 128 GB retails for $849. The handset is compatible with Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, and is available in two color options such as Ceramic Black and Translucent Blue.
