Square Enix made a lot of Kingdom Hearts fans very happy. The video game company released he gameplay of the franchise's next chapter.
The Adventure Continues
Fans have waited patiently to reunite with Sora, Donald Duck, and Goofy in the Kingdom Hearts universe. Now, the video game that brought characters from the Walt Disney Company together with the Final Fantasy franchise is back for another exciting adventure. On Thursday, May 17, the video game had its world premiere in Santa Monica, California, where journalists got to see the first footage from the upcoming video game.
The gameplay teaser was divided into several parts. The first part focused on the trio of Sora, Donald Duck, and Goofy confronting the monstrous Rock Titan from Disney's Hercules. The gigantic creature threw enormous boulders as the heroic trio tried to dodge them. Fans saw Sora leap into action as he faced numerous Heartless creatures that blocked him from getting to the villain.
During the climax of the first half of the gameplay teaser, fans saw the trio on board a sparkly new vehicle called the Big Magic Mountain. The electric train shot fireworks as it destroyed the Rock Titan.
A 'Toy Story' Delight
The next world that gamers visited was Andy's neighborhood from the Toy Story franchise. Sora used new weapons such as the Agile Claws, Shotlocks, and Twin Yo-Yos to defeat the deadly Heartless that were invading the neighborhood. Fans also encountered the Toy Story universe's champions, Woody and Buzz Lightyear.
One of the new attacks that were featured in the gameplay trailer was Rocket Ruckus, where the player as Sora boarded a rocket with Woody and Buzz as they launched across the neighborhood. Another portion of the gameplay involved the quintet visiting a giant toy store. Fans were able to face off against their opponents in giant robots.
Linking A Legacy
Another new feature that players will encounter in Kingdom Hearts 3 is the Link ability. It is designed for players to call on fan-favorite Disney characters, which will help players as they engage with enemies throughout the game. In addition to Woody and Buzz, players were able to receive assistance from The Little Mermaid's Ariel and Wreck-It Ralph's Ralph during the gameplay teaser.
Kingdom Hearts 3 co-director Tetsuya Nomura stated that this story would end the vast Dark Seeker storyline, which started in the original game. He forewarned players that this game would become darker. Media outlets have speculated that Kingdom Hearts 3's release date might be announced at the Square Enix E3 presentation.
'Kingdom Hearts' Flashbacks
Anticipation has been building for this game following the previous releases of several Kingdom Hearts-related games. In March 2017, Square Enix released Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix for PlayStation 3. It also released Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep: A Fragmentary Passage, which showcased Aqua, one of the original Keyblade wielders, as she faced off against the Heartless.
