A new Sea of Thieves update adds the option for players to form open and closed crews, along with bug fixes and performance improvements.
Sea Of Thieves Update Adds Two Crew Options
Sea of Thieves now adds the option to choose between having a closed or open crew, which dictates whether they will be teamed up with random players or with friends they choose. Having an open crew means the empty slots will be filled up by players until the ship reaches the maximum amount of players.
This has been Sea of Thieves' way of setting sail, but pranksters causing trouble for everyone made joining a random ship too risky. This system also adds another random player in the middle of the game if one player disconnects, making sure that the ship is filled to its maximum capacity.
The new system now allows players to start on a Galleon or a Sloop with a crew of their own choosing with any number of players within the limit. Players can choose to set sail alone or with up to three other players on the Galleon and up to one other player on the Sloop. This also prevents random players from joining the ship once a ship has set sail.
The new menu should now display this option instead of the three-player Galleon option or the solo Sloop option.
According to Rare, it is expanding this feature by adding the ability to switch between Open and Closed in-game. A future Sea of Thieves update should also bring the option to make a session private by also preventing friends from joining.
Sea Of Thieves Patch 1.07 Adds More Changes
The Sea of Thieves update also fixes issues and applies some general changes. It has now removed the Gamertag and Player Titles when a player goes underwater. It has also added the items Pistol, Hull, Sails, Imperial Sovereign Blunderbuss, and Liveries in Ancient Isles, which were listed in the previous patch by mistake.
The ability to give a crew member an item directly was also included in this patch, but it has been removed because of some issues that the developers claim it was causing. It would have been a helpful tweak as players had to first drop the item if they want to hand it to a crew member, who will then have to pick up the dropped item When Rare implements it again after resolving the issue, it should work with bananas, cannon balls, and wooden planks.
The full patch notes are posted at the game's website. Sea of Thieves is available on Xbox One and Windows PC.
