First 'Sea Of Thieves' Pirate Legend Stands His Ground Against Critics

First Pirate Legend Robert Paz speaks up amid all the backlash on his Sea of Thieves achievement, saying that he doesn't understand the hate.

Does He Deserve The #NotMyPirateLegend Hate?

The ultimate goal in Sea of Thieves, achieving the Pirate Legend status, was not an easy feat for the Twitch streamer Prod1gyX. However, for someone who first achieved the goal, the streamer is receiving massive amounts of hate from the community for allegedly riding on the backs of other players.

"They started criticizing my gameplay when they heard something about the boosting," Prod1gyX told Polygon, referring to the Reddit users who showed up at the last hour of his stream.

"They just heard 'boosting,' and everyone started twisting my words. 'He boosted all the way,' and people tweeted at me, 'Cheater, cheater, not my legend, not my legend.'"

He did admit that he got help from other crews who were part of his Twitch community, allowing him to join in and partake of the loot. It also did not help that he took a break just before finishing the Pirate Legend quest.

He Did Not Boost His Way To Pirate Legend

Other viewers who might not be present since the beginning saw "boosting" as essentially cheating. However, according to Paz, he put in legit efforts that allowed him to reach the finish line. Furthermore, it's not like he "boosted" all the way from level 1 to level 50.

"You can't say that I wasn't playing it right from the very beginning of the game," he stated.

A Reddit user calculated that Paz might have only boosted 21 percent of the way when comparing his stats to the second known streamer to achieve Pirate Legend Status, SniperNamedG. The latter has more viewers and was celebrated more as a Pirate Legend through the hashtag #MyPirateLegend.

No 'Sea Of Thieves' Rules Were Broken

Some Reddit users who were neutral about the whole deal expressed that Prod1gyX did not break any rules and were simply maximizing what Sea of Thieves allows players to do. Others added that this can actually be expected of a real pirate lord that lets his minions do things for him instead.

In the end, Prod1gyX did what he sought out to do together with his community, and according to him, his community acknowledges him as their Pirate Legend. He's currently helping other players through legendary quests that require a Pirate Legend to join in.

Rare has yet to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, Sea of Thieves is available on Xbox One and Windows PC.
