Sea of Thieves is suffering from a variety of launch issues on the Xbox One and PC, with players complaining over the different error codes that they are receiving, among other problems.
Developer Rare held Sea of Thieves scale tests before the game's release, but it appears that they were not enough to make sure that there will be no hiccups upon the launch of the action-adventure title.
'Sea Of Thieves' Error Codes
Sea of Thieves is finally here, nearly three years after Rare first unveiled the pirate game at E3 2015. Unfortunately for some players, the wait will have to last a little bit longer, as the developer acknowledged and has started working to fix a variety of launch issues.
Gamers are experiencing various error codes when trying to play Sea of Thieves, with one of the more common problems being the CinnamonBeard message. The message pops up when gamers try to log in, preventing them from going online. Rare confirmed that the error indicated server capacity issues, and according to a Sea of Thieves support document, players can try fixing it by quitting and re-launching the game and hoping for the best.
Other error codes mentioned in the support document include KiwiBeard, which is caused by having more than one Gamertag assigned to the Xbox One console; AshBeard and AvocadoBeard, which signal problems with the player's Xbox Live connection or Xbox Live Gold subscription; and LavenderBeard, which is caused by improperly configured firewall settings.
More 'Sea Of Thieves' Launch Issues
In addition to the error codes, Sea of Thieves players have also reported missing items and gold once they log in to the game. There are also cases where gamers do not receive the gold or reputation rewards after completing a quest.
Rare recommends players to exit to the main menu and log back in to the game when encountering these problems, though it may take several tries before the issues are solved.
Was 'Sea Of Thieves' Rushed To Launch?
The various launch issues support theories that Rare rushed Sea of Thieves to meet its deadline, as the game has long been delayed.
In a Reddit AMA with Rare team members, it was apparent that expectations will not be met. While the developer included a so-called Infinite Pirate Generator system, most of the expected content of the game will apparently be added later on through post-launch updates and DLC.
Rare may have believed that Sea of Thieves was ready to go, but with the launch issues and missing content, players might want to shy away from the open-sea pirate adventure for now.
