At the annual Jump Festa expo in Tokyo, Square Enix released a new trailer for the upcoming and highly anticipated Final Fantasy XV
The trailer begins with a cinematic rendering of the imperial invasion of Insomnia which kickstarts the action of the game. Peaceful negotiations were discarded when the empire decided to betray Insomnia and launch an invasion, trying to take control over the last remaining crystal in the world.
Prince Noctis Lucis Caelum, the protagonist of the game, is shown to be away from his home when the empire attacked Insomnia, which is probably how he and his group were able to escape the invasion.
After the cinematics, the second half of the teaser trailer revealed more gameplay, reverting to the theme of a road trip that was seen in the earlier teaser trailer that was released in September at the Tokyo Game Show. There were shots that included leisurely driving through towns in the seaside, followed by the group staying behind a rock to spy on wild Behemoths. An intense fight against an imperial roadblock then followed.
The trailer also provides a brief glimpse of the game's version of Cid, a character well known throughout the Final Fantasy series that has appeared in almost all Final Fantasy installments and spin-offs. However, for Final Fantasy XV, the rugged Cid is portrayed by a female vehicle mechanic named Cidney.
The last scene of the trailer showcases Noctis battling against a massive giant adorned with tattoos, showing that the game is not just all about a political struggle between the empire and those who oppose it. The giant will supposedly play a huge part within the game's story, with players supposedly being able to summon the giant themselves.
In addition to summoning the giant, it appears that players will also be able to call upon beasts that they have captured, with different rules for capturing different kinds of beasts.
Despite the released trailers, Square Enix has not yet confirmed a final release date for Final Fantasy XV. However, a playable demo of the game entitled Episode Duscae will be exclusively bundled with pre-orders and copies sold on the first day of the upcoming Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, which will be released in North America for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on March 17 of next year.
A separate demo, however, seems to be in the works that will be free to download for all gamers. This demo will feature all the content that was revealed by Square Enix at the Tokyo Game Show.
