Rumor: Rocksteady To Announce Open-World ‘Superman’ Game

According to a user on 4chan, Rocksteady Studios is getting ready to announce an open-world Superman video game. The studio is best known for its Batman: Arkham series, critically acclaimed for their stealth and detective elements.

For years, there have been rumors alleging that Rocksteady Studios is developing a Superman title. Many people assumed it was going to premiere at last year's The Game Awards, but that never happened.

There are reasons to be skeptical about this new rumor. First off, 4chan isn't exactly the most reliable place on the internet. To be fair, though, there have been times when 4chan users were right on the money. Even still, it goes without saying that all rumors must be taken with a grain of salt.

Open World 'Superman' Game From Rocksteady Studios In Development

The anonymous poster claims that the game will be officially unveiled a couple of weeks before E3, which takes place June 12 to 14. In addition, the game runs on Unreal Engine 4 and features an open-world Metropolis that's apparently three times the size of Arkham Knight's map and has a lot more buildings. Clark Kent, Superman's true identity, won't be a playable character. The main villain will be Brainiac, Superman's next archenemy after Lex Luthor.

As for the combat system, the source compares Superman's in-game flight ability to that of Dragon Ball Z, claiming "you can punch someone then zoom towards them and repeat."

Is This Even Legitimate?

Apart from the fact that anonymous posts on the internet without accompanying evidence aren't a great source, there's another reason to be skeptical about the aforementioned claims. The post included a picture of Superman that's supposedly a piece of concept art for the game. That's correct. However, it's not new. In fact, the image was created by Charles Logan, who posted it more than three years ago on ArtStation.

"Superman concept art done for a client's video game pitch which ended up being scrapped," reads Logan's caption for the image.

E3 is right around the corner, and again, the game will apparently be unveiled weeks before that. If there's no Superman title announced in the lead-up to the gaming expo, then gamers can promptly dismiss this rumor as another hoax. Superman die-hards, don't get your hopes up.
