Team Secret Signs 13-Year-Old 'Fornite' Player: Is He The Youngest Pro Gamer?

Team Secret enters the game Fortnite Battle Royale as it signs a four-player European squad. Surprisingly, one of them is a 13-year-old.

Team Secret Did Not Know His Age

The team has already been playing with each other when Team Secret found out about the age of each member. Mats "Sak0ner" Sorum from Norway, Michael "VNHL" Gustad also from Norway, and Domeniks "Domentos" Bunts from Latvia are at least 17 years old. However, John Yao, CEO of Team Secret, was not aware that Kyle "Mongraal" Jackson from the United Kingdom is only 13 years old when they signed him.

"Because when we looked at some of the videos and we looked at their gameplay, it was not apparent," Yao said. "What immediately stood out to me was how mature he was, and he sounded just like one of the other guys."

To prove the team's Fortnite skills, Team Secret uploaded a highlight reel as shown below.

Is Mongraal The Youngest Pro Player Ever?

Although the age of 13 is pretty young, Jackson is not the youngest pro player. Jun "TY" Tae Yang was only 12 years old when WeMade FOX picked him up in 2006, but he didn't appear in the league until he was 13 and a half years old.

However, even TY is not the youngest player recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. That title goes to Victor De Leon III, also known as Lil Poison.

He was signed when he was 6, and he went on to place second at a Halo 2 FFA tournament when he was 7 years old, beating out most of the 550 contestants.

Fortnite Entering Esports Soon?

This is not the first time that Team Secret, best known for its DOTA 2 team, entered the battle royale scene. It recently signed a PUBG team, featuring a Latin quartet who debuted on March 14.

PUBG is already holding its first major esports tournament in summer, but Fortnite is not on the scene yet. Still, Yao believes that the popular title is getting behind esports soon, so he made a preemptive strike before all the good players get signed up by other teams.

"When a game gets popular enough, generally everybody tries to get into esports because they want to legitimize the game's competitive nature," he said.

As Fortnite is naturally a competitive game, Yao believes that it will be established in the esports scene soon, and it is betting on Mongraal and his team to represent them.
