OnePlus continues its teaser campaign and now, it recently teased the rear of the OnePlus 6, saying that it will come with a new material.
OnePlus 6 New Teaser Shows An Inscription
The latest teaser is showing a portion of the OnePlus 6's backside and reveals that the upcoming flagship is going to have an inscription that reads "Designed by OnePlus." However, the more interesting bit is the statement that came along with the photo.
"Same expert craftsmanship, new materials," the Indian OnePlus Twitter account captioned the image.
Speculations immediately swirled that OnePlus 6 is having a ceramic back, a different approach to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T that were made with an aluminum panel. The ceramic panel would make sense.
The new flagship will supposedly offer wireless charging. For that to work, the company should redress the rear panel.
The ceramic material was already used by other smartphone companies such as Xiaomi and Essentia, to make their phones ready for wireless charging.
OnePlus 6 Is Not Going To Have A Ceramic Back
However, speculations were quickly put to rest by Pete Lau, the company CEO himself. He spoke up in the OnePlus forums and revealed that OnePlus 6 is going to have a glass back instead of a ceramic one.
He also added that they designed the OnePlus 6 to have a premium hand-feel and a sense of value. OnePlus wanted to create a handset that feels premium from the moment that users first touch their handset to everyday use.
Lau also boasted of the OnePlus 6's Nanotech Coating in which they applied five layers instead of three. It is apparently the first in the industry.
According to Lau, the company tested over 70 prototypes before settling on one. The way that the material reflects light was particularly challenging, but the company likes the advantage of the bright and pure feeling of glass.
OnePlus 6 Confirmed Features And Specs
One of the previous teasers hinted that the OnePlus 6 is going to be water-resistant with an IP65 rating at least. Another teaser showcased the left-hand side, which features a SIM card slot in place of the alert slider that is found on the past flagships. The antenna band also looks to be confined to the frame instead of spilling onto the back.
Under the hood, Lau also confirmed a Snapdragon 845 processor, an 8 GB RAM, and a 256 GB internal storage. The rest of the OnePlus 6 specifications will be revealed soon, possibly in May or June.
