The competition among Battle Royale shooters continues as PUBG Corporation announces the new 4x4 Codename: Savage map for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, which drops next week.
The new content is scheduled to come out first on the test server so players and developers can work out the bugs. Access will be reportedly limited as keys will be distributed a little later. Those who could not participate in the first event should not worry since the publisher promised an even bigger test that will soon follow. More details regarding the limited-access event should be available next week.
Update Roadmap
Earlier this month, the game studio shared the shooter's roadmap planned out for 2018. The information hinted that there will be two maps that will soon come out. The first one was supposedly smaller, which somehow coincides with the latest news. The next one will apparently feature a bigger area just like the available ones now.
Unlike the limited Information sources got before, the publisher promises to share more details about its development status and more.
More Encounters And Faster Pace
Although not really flagged as a problem, games such as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite sometimes encounter matches that tend to draw out a little longer. Gamers noted that the large number of participants and a big map influences players to hide and pick off opponents, which is the exact opposite of massive battle envisioned by the developers and viewers.
PUBG Corporation's decision to introduce a smaller 4x4 map should add something different but welcome to the title. Due to the size of the play area, gamers can expect to run into opponents much faster, which seems to be ideal for people who want to play more games in a short amount of time.
"It's a much smaller map and should give you all a much more intense and faster paced Battle Royale experience. It will offer a higher player density and shorter matches and we want to get it into your hands early this time around so we can use your input to make it a great experience for everyone," said Brendan Greene, the title's creative director and PlayerUnknown himself.
Other Planned Changes
New content is always welcome, but PUBG Corporation does not seem like it will be satisfied with just that. A few weeks ago, the developers confirmed that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds needs more polish. The revelation of the 4x4 Codename: Savage map is already a great start, but the game studio wants to do more.
Gamers can reportedly expect better character animations, improved sound effects, new game modes, and more. The development team cannot sit idly and watch as its biggest competitor, Epic Games' Fortnite, continues to shower its users with post-launch content and gameplay improvements.
The first test period will start on April 2 at 7 p.m. PDT until April 5 at 4 a.m. PDT, while interested players can find out how to qualify for the alpha test next week.
