Grand Theft Auto V is a great game, but ever since the online functionality was finally stabilized, fans have been asking for one thing and one thing only. There's a lot to do in GTA Online, like deathmatches, racing and just running around causing mayhem, but if there's one thing that players wanted to cross over from the single-player story, it was the Heist missions.
Long, elaborate, multi-man missions that required more coordination and cooperation than the average GTA Online jobs sounded perfect when it was first announced over a year and a half ago. The problem is that, for the past year and a half, fans have had no idea when Heists would make their way into the game...or if they ever would.
After what has seemed like an eternity, Rockstar has finally revealed when Heists will go online - unfortunately, fans will still have to wait a little longer.
If there's anything bad about the announcement, it's that Rockstar still hasn't given fans a solid release date for Heists: Rockstar only gave a vague 'Spring 2015' release window. Given how poorly GTA Online performed when it was first released, it's understandable that the developer wants to take its time and make sure that the game works, but not knowing exactly when to expect the Heists is still just as painful as it ever was.
At the very least, Rockstar finally opened up on why Heists have taken so long to make it into the game. While speaking with IGN, GTA Online's producer Imran Sarwar summed it up rather nicely: "To be honest, [the Heists] just turned out to be a lot more difficult than we originally thought."
"...As it turns out, creating missions of that complexity for multiple players at the same time was much more difficult than we anticipated and every time we thought we were close, something would send us back to square one. Having already let players know of our intentions with Heists, every setback only increased the pressure to make sure we got them right."
It makes sense, though one has to wonder why Rockstar even bothered announcing the Heists in the first place. Sure, it's a great selling point, but if you're not sure if it'll even work or not, why bother hyping it up?
Either way, after over a year of waiting, the crown jewel of GTA Online is almost here. The Heists update will come to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One sometime early next year.
