For a while now, people believe that Apple users are blindly devoted to iOS devices, but a new study shows Android fans are even more.
The Consumer Intelligence Research Partners LLC or CIRP has provided the results of the research.
The data from the survey appear to disprove the shared presumption that users of Apple's operating system are the most loyal. However, it comes as a surprise that device users on Android platform tend to stay longer with Google.
Valid Numbers And Length Of Study
The industry experts did not include the Windows Phones ecosystem since the platform ceased to stay relevant during the course of the research. What's left is strictly between Apple and Google as both parties try to outdo each other with new features and gimmicks.
According to the researchers, the controlled samples of 500 consumers were surveyed each quarter to determine if they have switched to another OS. The results were taken from start of 2016 to the end 2017, wherein features on both sides were more or less on equal terms.
What The Numbers Mean
Tthe group discovered that from 2016 onward, consumers began to settle in with what's familiar to them. Unlike iOS in which there is only a single lineup of devices each year that run the operating system, Android users have the luxury of several choices. Several brands present its flagship model each with its own features and nuances.
The results show that Google's platform retained 91 percent of their users while Apple managed only 88 percent. Logically, the number of users that abandoned their former operating system naturally just switch over to the competition.
Since Android has a larger user base than Apple, it is not immediately observable that there are in fact more consumer who switch to iOS than the other way around.
"Loyalty for both Android and iOS increased in 2015 and into 2016 when it leveled off for both operating systems," explained Mike Levin, CIRP's co-founder, and partner.
"With only Two operating systems at this point, it appears users pick one, learn it, invest in apps and storage, and stick with it. Now Apple and Google need to figure out how to sell products and services to these loyal customer bases."
Device Compatibility Affects Sales
These days, third-party manufacturers for accessories and Smart home devices sometimes prefer to support a single operating system. It becomes another factor for consumers to consider before they invest in an Android or Apple device. Compatibility and connectivity have become significant factors of a platform and model a buyer chooses when the time comes.
