The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is hitting theaters on Dec. 17. For those who are unable to wait, Warner Bros. has released two new clips showcasing what moviegoers should expect to experience on the day.
The first clip is all about Smaug flying over Lake Town and setting the place ablaze. Everywhere is fire, people screaming, people dying, and Bard, the Bowman (Luke Evans), appears to be the only person who is ready to fight. He is seen running on building tops with an aim to get to the highest point for a clear shot at Smaug.
However, when he fired the first arrow, it simply hits Smaug and bounces off. The skin of the deadly dragon is too hard. The Bard will have to find another way to kill the beast before he massacres everyone.
The second clip highlights a conversation between Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakenshield. Bilbo is wondering why Thorin is going to war considering the Elves outnumber the Dwarves by a great deal. It appears Thorin has a plan as he told Bilbo that he should not underestimate Dwarves and that their numbers won't be small for long. This suggests Thorin had found a way to call on a Dwarven army to help defend their new home.
Both clips are impressive and should give some moviegoers a reason to watch the film. It is clear that The Hobbit movies are not of the same caliber compared to Lord of the Rings, mainly due to Peter Jackson's and Warner Bros.' need to stretch a single book into three parts.
The Hobbit should have been over long ago, but alas, Middle Earth is a profitable place no doubt.
There won't be another film set in Middle Earth after The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, but that won't stop Warner Bros. from milking the franchise. Expect more video games and possibly a TV series in the years to come.
Probably 10 to 20 years from now, we might get a chance to see a complete reboot of all films as Hollywood is notorious for these things.
