'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Character Names Revealed via Topps Trading Cards

Major Star Wars: The Force Awakens news: we learn the names of some characters featured in the teaser trailer for the first time.

Plot details about the J.J. Abrams-directed Star Wars flick have been tightly guarded, but some official retro-looking characters cards were released in Entertainment Weekly to introduce us to the new faces from a galaxy far, far away.

First up is John Boyega as Finn, whose character was once speculated to be the focus of the new trilogy. Boyega famously told critics, who were not keen on seeing a black man donning Stormtrooper armor to "Get used to it!"

The cloaked figure in the teaser, weilding the innovative lightsaber with cross guard, was revealed to be Kylo Ren. The exclusion of the title "Sith" leads some fans to wonder why Ren would have a red lightsaber, a color usually attributed to the Dark Side.

Early on, it was speculated that the villain in The Force Awakens could be a woman who turns to the Dark Side of the Force. Now, some are guessing that the cloaked figure could be actor Adam Driver or even Mark Hamil as Luke Skywalker gone Dark.

Daisy Ridley is a character named Rey. The exclusion of her last name, and the similarities of her costume to that worn by Princess Leia, lead some to think that she may be the daughter of Leia Organa (Skywalker) and Han Solo.

Oscar Isaac is X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron. Although his name reveals no obvious connections to any character or family from the first set of six Star Wars movies, the insignia on his helmet is the same as Luke Skywalker's in the Rouge Squadron.

Finally, that odd-looking droid with a rolling ball for a body is BB-8. According to some reports, the little droid could have been named after Bryan Burk, who is the producer of The Force Awakens as well as many other J.J. Abrams films.

And we just can't leave out this Topps-inspired card featuring the old girl, The Millenium Falcon, still up and ready for battle 30 years after the events of the original Trilogy.
