Michael Baxter, a 52-year-old prison warden from Australia, is a huge Simpsons fan. So huge, in fact, that he had his entire back tattooed with the Simpson family, as well as most of Springfield's citizens.
Only the biggest of Simpson's fans will be able to name all 203 characters inked on Baxter's incredible back piece.
His artist, Jade Baxter Smith, who began tattooing when she was 18 years old, said that she did not take him seriously at first when he approached her with his tattoo concept. However, 130 hours under the needle later, Baxter's Simpsons-themed ink began gaining widespread popularity, not only in Australia, but all over the world.
The main focus of the tattoo is the Simpson family. Baxter said that his favorite character is actually Homer. He explained that he wanted his tattoo to be unique and a piece that nobody else would ever think of getting.
"I'm a huge fan of the show. I love the tattoo, and I know lots of other people, including my grandchildren, do too," he said.
Forming the background behind Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are hundreds of other characters from the show; some are so obscure that only the geekiest Simpsons fans will be able to name them off the top of their heads.
Baxter's right side also features famous Springfield locale, Moe's Tavern, while the familiar family couch from the opening credits flanks his left shoulder blade.
Baxter estimates that he spent around $12,000 for his tattoo, but he is happy touring to tattoo conventions with Jade to show off the piece and help promote her work.
He is also hoping that his tattoo will earn him a place in the Guinness World Records. The current record holder for the most Simpsons tattoos is Lee Weir, who has a sleeve piece featuring 41 different versions of Homer.
"Guinness have accepted my application, but I have a lot of paperwork to fill out," he said.
According to the reports, he is also hoping that Simpsons creator Matt L. Groening will be impressed enough by his tattoo that he will give him a guest appearance on the show as an animated character.
