Niantic has announced a new project called Pokémon GO Community Day, which will bring special Pokémon with unique abilities, double XP, and other items.
When it first launched back in the summer of 2015, Pokémon GO was an instant hit and rapidly turned into a global social phenomenon. The hype has died down since then despite various Pokémon GO events that aimed to spice thigs up, but the new Pokémon GO Community Day initiative may bring back some of the lost enthusiasm.
What Is Pokémon GO Community Day?
Niantic has prepared a number of special days as part of the Pokémon GO Community Day project, aiming to organize monthly meetings to spark players' interest and engagement.
The first such Community Day will take place next Saturday, on Jan. 20, and it will consist of a three-hour event at local parks around the world. In the United States, the event will last from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. PT, and players can expect exciting treats.
Trainers can take advantage of the Pokémon GO Community Day events to meet other players at local parks and make more friends from the Pokémon GO community.
Pokémon GO Community Day Perks
"Once a month, we'll host a Pokémon GO Community Day event starring a special Pokémon, which will appear frequently around the world for just a few hours," says the Pokémon GO team. "When caught during the event, this special Pokémon will know an exclusive move."
Other bonuses will also be in store during the special event, including extra Stardust and increased XP. Moreover, activating a Lure Module during the event will increase its duration to three hours, thus boosting players' chances of catching more Pokémon.
Niantic is also reminding Pokémon GO players to be safe and alert while playing the game and respect the public places they visit when exploring the local Pokémon GO community. The company will post additional details for each new event on its website.
Pokémon GO Events
This is not the first attempt Niantic has made to organize such an event. Last summer, the company hosted the first official Pokémon GO event, and things took a turn for the worse, as internet issues and server problems made the game virtually unplayable, leaving players disappointed and frustrated. Some Pokémon GO Fest attendees even filed a class-action lawsuit against Niantic.
Since the huge gathering that was the Pokémon GO Fest turned out to be a bust, monthly meetings at various local parks might turn out to be a better idea. Unlike the big event, these Pokémon GO Community Day meetups will not require an admissions fee and will likely not draw such huge crowds either.
