The first of Bungie's space shooter Destiny expansion The Dark Below DLC's is now live and comes packed with new missions, gear, maps, level caps, strikes and more.
The Dark Below went live early morning Tuesday, Dec.9, for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 in North America and Europe. The pack goes for $20 but those buying it as part of an expansion pass will have to shell out $35.
Hours leading up to the release of The Dark Below, Bungie teased some of the stuff players can earn.
"With the ATS/8 Arachnid, Hunters can zoom in while aiming the Golden Gun. Fashion, meet function," teases Destiny's tweet.
The teasers also reveal that the new Glasshouse gives "Blessing of Light extra staying power." Moreover, with the Murmur fusion rifle, gamers will be able to swap between Arc and Solar damage. The dragon's breath will apparently leave a Solar Flare detonation. Another exciting weapon Destiny teases is "The Necrochasm's explosive surprise: Precision kills make any enemy pop like a Cursed Thrall."
Other new exciting additions include Eris, a new character who is an NPX and will be seen in the Tower as he provides Guardians with missions and quests that hold the promise of giving a deeper insight into Destiny's lore and backstory.
Remember Xur, the traveling salesman? He will now give you the option to upgrade your gear in lieu of money or will take a player's unused exotics and reuse them for causing more damage.
"After years hiding amongst the Hive shadows, a new character, Eris, has come forth bearing an ominous warning: The Hive seek to summon a god, Crota, to destroy the Earth. Find her in the Tower to complete her quests and three new story missions, increase your Light, and earn the weapons and armor you'll need to face what waits in the dark below," Destiny's website reads.
Currently, three primary missions - The Veil Lifted, The Wakening and The Seeding - have been revealed. These will likely explain how and where the Hive originated and the backstory of their war with the Fallen and the remnant members of Humanity.
The DLC expansion will also have a new six-player Raid dubbed Crota's End. This Raid will give top-level characters, who have managed to master the Vault of Glass, several new challenges, as well as new monsters to take on. The main player will be required to have a light level of 30 though.
Guardians will also have 3-player cooperative Strikes at their disposal, which will bring new adventures galore.
The Dark Below also has three new Crucible maps i.e. Pantheon (a symmetrical area), Skyshock (massive battlefield for vehicle fights) and The Cauldron (close quarters map). The light level cap has been raised from 30 to 32 by Bungie in the expansion.
PS3 and PS4 users who buy The Dark Below will get The Undying Mind,an exclusive Strike mission. They will also get "The 4th Horseman" which is a four-barrel shotgun. Xbox users will have to wait until Fall 2015 before they get these exclusives despite paying the same.
