With games ranging from Halo to Crash Bandicoot getting HD re-releases, fans of Super Smash Bros. Melee have been eagerly waiting for their turn to play an HD version of the classic Nintendo game.
Unfortunately, it isn't Nintendo who put the game together. It is just a mod for the latest release but will feature the same gameplay as the original game it's based on.
Super Smash Bros. Melee HD
In case one didn't have time to read the FAQ for the mod, it is in no way related to the Project M mod of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. While the mod can be installed for Wii U or CEMU it's still a work in progress.
Melee HD sets to take the original gameplay over the existing Super Smash Bros. 4. The team working on this mod restored the returning characters back to their melee form. For new characters to the series, moves were added that more closely align with the concept of the original game.
This means that mechanics such as wave dashing and L-cancelling return in this version of the game.
It is available for download now and someone created a tutorial on how to install the mod so users can play and check it out.
Project M
Fans of Melee have long been waiting for an HD version of the game to be released. The last time that they were presented with the opportunity was with the Project M mode for Brawl.
The Project M version of the game replaced the original version of Brawl in major tournaments. Despite the team ceasing development on the mod, it is still being played at major tournaments.
While fans still wait for an HD version of Melee, rumors of an upcoming Super Smash Bros. Switch release are heating up. Last month, Japanese publications noticed that Nintendo had filed a new Super Smash Bros. trademark. At the moment it only includes a Japanese logo.
There was also the software update that added support for Nintendo GameCube controllers to the Nintendo Switch. This turned out to be an accident by Nintendo, it hadn't intended on adding support for the GameCube controller.
Where there's smoke, there's fire. It would be inconceivable for Nintendo not to release one of its premier game on its latest console. We've seen the return of Metroid, now fans are eagerly awaiting the return of their favorite fighting game.
