Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, will be joining the cast of The Flash when he reprises his role as James Jesse, a.k.a. the Trickster on the CW's hit show.
Hamill originally portrayed the Flash villain for two episodes on the short-lived 1990 CBS The Flash series alongside series star John Wesley Shipp. Shipp is now featured in the new Flash series as Barry's father, so Hamill's return will be a reunion of sorts. His maniacal "Joker-esque" take on the character would eventually lead to Hamill portraying the clown prince of crime himself in Batman: The Animated Series and a number of Batman video games.
This new take on the Trickster character to be played by Hamill will be "an anarchist terrorist con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and Det. West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original's deadly footsteps," according to HitFix.
Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says getting Hamill on board was on the team's original wish list when they were planning the new version of The Flash.
"Christmas and Chanukah came early for us this year when he said yes," Kreiserg says. "We are beyond humbled and excited to have him joining us for another round of deadly trickery!"
He will actually be the third actor from CBS's Flash show to appear. Amanda Pays will also be returning to the Flash when she once again takes on the role of Dr. Tina McGee. In the 1990 show, McGee served as an advisor and companion to Allen by helping him understand his powers. In CW's version, McGee will work at a tech firm that has taken a special interest in Allen's superhuman speed. Pays will return in the episode "The Man in the Yellow Suit."
Hamill will appear as the Trickster in the season's 17th episode, sometime in 2015. The actor will then reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens in December 2015.
