'Nintendo Power' Magazine Returns As Gaming Company's Official Podcast

Nintendo's longest-running magazine, Nintendo Power, is making a triumphant return but not in the way you'd think.

Instead of going to print, Nintendo of America revealed that the magazine would return as Nintendo's official podcast. The gaming company took to Twitter announcing more details about the show and told fans that the former Nintendo Power editor-in-chief, Chris Slate, would act as the host.

The First Episode

Alongside the announcement, Nintendo also debuted the first episode of the Nintendo Power podcast on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

The first show featured Slate talking with a few guests about the gaming company’s accomplishments in 2017. In the hour-long episode, Slate, Kit Ellis, who is the co-host of Nintendo Minute, and Damon Baker from Publisher and Developer Relations at Nintendo of America looked back at the Nintendo Switch console, the company's E3 presentation, Super Mario Odyssey, the breakout title The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and much more.

Slate further went on to discuss the development of the latest Zelda game with the game's producer, Eiji Aonuma, and its director, Hidemaro Fujibayashi.

How Will The Podcast Differ From The Magazine

Though the podcast still retains the classic Nintendo Power branding, it is now known how different this version of the magazine will be.

The podcast is just in its beginning phase, and it is worth noting that a set schedule for episode releases has yet to be revealed. Slate acknowledges that since the project is still in its infancy, the Nintendo Power podcast doesn’t have a specific release schedule or even a set format as of yet. He also mentions that the team behind the scenes is still working to determine what content the fans will want from the show.

There is still a lot more to be seen, and only time will tell if the podcast can capture the magic the Nintendo Power magazine once had.

If you want to listen, the Nintendo Power podcast is available on Apple Podcasts and Soundcloud. The company has also announced a Google Play version will be coming soon.
