This Nintendo Switch Dock Has A Built-In Projector Because Why Not?

All those who think the only thing that's missing from the Nintendo Switch is a projector will love this new peripheral by YesOJO Studio. The Hong Kong-based seven-person team recently took to Indiegogo to request funding for a bold idea: a Switch dock that comes with a projector built-in — plus a lot more.

Meet The OJO Projector Dock For The Nintendo Switch

At the time of writing, the campaign is already a success, having raised more money than its $30,000 funding goal with still a month to go before the deadline. The projector itself is called the OJO, and it truly builds upon the Switch's promise of extreme portability.

On its own, the Switch is essentially a handheld console, but slip it in its standard dock and players can enjoy their games on a bigger TV screen. Why not combine both concepts? Why can't playing on a big screen be portable too? That seems to be the inspiration behind OJO, combining a projector, a massive 20,400 mAh battery, and high-quality speakers into one mobile dock for the Switch, as TechCrunch reports.

The OJO dock is the kind of accessory that just makes perfect sense for a console such as the Switch. Nintendo obviously regards its new hybrid console as made for multiplayer experiences. What better way to prove that than by being able to play with friends on a much bigger screen anywhere?

The team behind OJO claims its dock projector can output a display of between 30 to 120 inches at 200 lumens, with the built-in battery pack powering both the projector and the Switch itself.

A Few Things To Keep In Mind

OJO's promise of a truly portable Nintendo Switch experience — both handheld or not — is highly enticing. But as The Verge notes, it's pretty expensive for what it offers. The early-bird price is set at $269, but that'll climb up to $369 once the product goes to retail — $70 more than the cost of another Switch.

There's also the risk of giving money to what's essentially an inexperienced, first-time company that's trying to make a complex product on Indiegogo. It also doesn't help that a great number of crowdfunding projects related to tech hardware nearly always fail. Despite those caveats to keep in mind, the OJO is slated to ship this December, though it remains unclear when the team behind it plans to start manufacturing.
