The last Nintendo Switch system update, which took the hybrid console's firmware to version 4.0.0, introduced a pair of highly requested features but also quietly sneaked in another one.
The upgrade to version 4.0.0 gave gamers the ability to transfer save data and capture video. However, Nintendo Switch owners did not know that the update also added wireless USB headphone support to the hybrid console.
Nintendo Switch Now Supports Wireless USB Headphones
After system update version 4.0.0 was rolled out, Nintendo Switch owners discovered that the upgrade also added support for USB devices, including wireless USB headsets.
Nintendo did not mention the addition of the feature, which is a curious case to say the least. Nevertheless, support for wireless USB headphones have arrived to the Nintendo Switch, and gamers should try to see if their favorite headset is compatible with the Nintendo Switch.
To try it out, gamers will simply have to plug in the USB dongle of their wireless headphones to the USB port on the Nintendo Switch dock. A volume slider will then appear for the connected headset.
The feature only supposedly works when the Nintendo Switch is docked, but one possible workaround is to plug the USB dongle of the headphones into a USB-C adapter, which can then be plugged into the hybrid console itself instead of on its dock.
Unfortunately, there is still no word on when Nintendo plans to add Bluetooth headphones support to the Nintendo Switch. Support for wireless USB headphones is better than nothing though, especially as even the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One do not support Bluetooth headphones due to Bluetooth connections being notorious for lagging.
Nintendo Switch Version 4.0.0: The Other Features
The Nintendo Switch system update version 4.0.0, as previously mentioned, added the long-requested capabilities of transferring save data and capturing video.
Transferring save data requires several easy steps, but the process immediately deletes the save data from the source console once the transfer of the save data to the target console is completed. Capturing video on the Nintendo Switch is much easier, as it only entails a long press on the dedicated screen capture button to record the last 30 seconds of gameplay.
Can The Nintendo Switch Continue Its Dominance?
The new features coming to the Nintendo Switch will likely help the hybrid console in attracting new players. Nintendo Switch sales have recently reached 2 million units in the United States, with the hybrid console outselling the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One for five out of the past seven months.
The major issue that will hamper the growing success of the device, however, is the Nintendo Switch supply shortage, which is expected to happen in the upcoming holiday shopping season.
