Nintendo Switch Update Finally Enables Save Data Transfer And Video Capture: Here's How To Use The New Features

Nintendo has released system update version 4.0.0 for the Nintendo Switch, finally adding the long-requested features to transfer save data and capture video.

Gamers will have to follow the necessary steps to take advantage of the new features, which expand the social capabilities of the hybrid console to allow players to make friends and reach out to other Nintendo Switch owners.

Nintendo Switch Save Data Transfer

The process to transfer save data between two Nintendo Switch units is a bit lengthy, but at least the option is finally available for gamers. It can be initiated through the System Settings menu, where a new Transfer Your User and Save Data option will appear under Users.

Players looking to transfer save data from one Nintendo Switch to another should first make sure that both units are updated to version 4.0.0 and connected to the internet. A Nintendo Account is required to be linked to the user account on the source console, and not linked to a user account on the target console. The target console should also have not more than seven registered users, and should also have sufficient memory for the incoming save data.

Once the process is finished, the user's information, his or her save data, and the software purchased by the account will be transferred to the target console. All of that data, however, will be immediately deleted from the source console.

Nintendo Switch Video Capture

Capturing video on the Nintendo Switch, meanwhile, is much simpler compared to transferring save data. It can be launched by pressing and holding the dedicated screen capture button of the hybrid console, and once recording is finished, the video will be saved to the Nintendo Switch album. From there, players can trim the clips and share them on Facebook or Twitter.

The video capture feature, however, currently comes with two limitations. First, it can only record a maximum of the previous 30 seconds of gameplay. Second, it is only currently compatible with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, ARMS, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, though more games will likely be added soon.

What's Next For The Nintendo Switch

In Nintendo's official page for the Nintendo Switch system update, the company revealed that version 4.0.0 also adds new profile icons from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and the upcoming Super Mario Odyssey.

Super Mario Odyssey is currently being hyped up, as the open-world adventure is set to launch on Oct. 27. Nintendo, however, is said to be inviting developers and publishers to release more mature games for the Nintendo Switch, such as the violent first-person shooter Doom by Bethesda.
