Lenovo-owned Motorola has recently sent away the Moto X4 to join the Amazon Prime Exclusive lineup, and that means it has a catch or two.
The thing is, some of those "compromises" — ads and bloatware — do come with a benefit of sorts, which is a lower price point in this case.
Still, they might be deal breakers for some, so here's what users can expect from the Moto X4 Prime Exclusive.
The Price Is Lower
The best part of grabbing the Moto X4 in this way is the big discount. Normally, it goes for $399.99, but Amazon is slashing that down by $70. Doing the math real quick, the total comes to a mere $329.99.
It should be noted that that's not the only good thing to come out of this deal, though. For avid online shoppers, they might be thankful to see offers and ads on their phones. Emphasis on "might."
Ads And More Ads
As mentioned earlier, the Moto X4 is chock-full of lock-screen offers and ads, and depending on the user, that's either good or bad news.
Needless to say, anyone who wants to skip out on them will have to pay the full $399.99 cost of the phone.
Bloated By Bloatware
Bloatware is one of the biggest issues when it comes to smartphones, and the Moto X4 in the Prime Exclusive lineup will definitely have some of Amazon's bells and whistles.
That means it'll be loaded with apps such as Amazon, Prime Video, Kindle, and Music, to name a few. Of course, that won't be an issue for people who frequently use them. In other words, they can chalk this up to a matter of convenience.
Smarter Than The Average 'Assistant-less' Phone
One of the main selling points of the Moto X4 is that Amazon and Motorola crammed Alexa into it by default. That's a plus for anyone who's found themselves relying on the smart assistant more and more each day.
Moto X4 Not Exclusive To Amazon Prime Exclusive
If the bloatware and ads don't quite fit the bill, then it's worth knowing that the Moto X4 isn't exclusive to the Prime Exclusive lineup.
It actually first debuted on Project Fi, and it's the first Android One phone to hit the U.S. market. This version costs $399.99, and it doesn't have Alexa. But hey, it does have Google Assistant.
Moto X4 Specs
As a refresher, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chip runs the show behind the Moto X4, along with 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage that's expandable with a microSD card, and a 3,000 mAh battery pack.
It sports a 5.2-inch 1080p IPS LCD display and boasts a rating of IP68 for dust and water resistance, a fingerprint reader, and a dual-camera setup that consists of a 12-megapixel and 8-megapixel sensor. More than that, it runs on Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box.
To boil things down, the Moto X4 is one heck of an interesting smartphone thanks to Google and Amazon. Put differently, it's one of the few Alexa-powered smartphones, and it's the first Android One phone to launch in the United States. Last but not least, it's available in either Super Black or Sterling Blue.
