For a limited time, Pokémon Sun and Moon players can get Ash's Pikachu and Pikashunium Z via Mystery Gift.
To be clear, it's a Pikachu wearing Ash's iconic cap, but trainers may have to hold off from claiming the code depending on which hat they want their Pikachu to wear.
How To Get Ash's Pikachu
Step 1: Make sure your Nintendo 3DS is connected to the internet and fire up Pokémon Sun or Moon.
Step 2: In the main menu, choose the Mystery Gift option.
Step 3: Once in the Mystery Gift menu, choose Receive Gift
Step 4: Choose Get with Code/Password. After that, select Yes and then another Yes to go online.
Step 5: Type in the code PIKACHU20.
Step 6: Go to the nearest Pokémon Center and look for the deliveryman inside to get Ash's Pikachu. If you can't find him, he's the person wearing a yellow shirt with blue stripes and a pair of blue shorts.
There's a total of six variants of Ash's Pikachu, but you can only get one of them since the code is a one-time deal. By the same token, make sure to save your game after you get your Pikachu.
That said, here's a breakdown of what cap Ash's Pikachu will be wearing based on when you use up the code:
• Between Sept. 19 and 25: Original Cap
• Between Sept. 26 and Oct. 2: Hoenn Cap
• Between Oct. 3 and 9: Sinnoh Cap
• Between Oct. 10 and 16: Unova Cap
• Between Oct. 17 and 23: Kalos Cap
• Between Oct. 24 and 30: Alola Cap
Aside from the differing caps, each variant of Ash's Pikachu will have different sets of moves. That's based on which moves Pikachu would frequently use in each region according to the anime. For instance, Ash's Pikachu with the original cap will have a skillset that consists of moves it used in the Kanto and Johto regions.
"These Pikachu are unique as they are wearing one of Ash's hats - each one reflecting the hat Ash wore in the various regions that the famous duo has explored in the twenty years of Pokémon TV and movies," The Pokémon Company says.
On an interesting note, this giveaway is in celebration of the film Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, which is making a limited theatrical run.
As for the Pikashinium Z, the Pikachu you get will be holding it. For the record, it doesn't matter which one you pick because all of them will have it.
What Is Pikashunium Z?
Pikashunium Z is the Z-Crystal that allows Pikachu to use a special Z-Move called 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt, but to use it, it'll need to know the move Thunderbolt.

Before wrapping things up, it's worth mentioning that Ash's Pikachu also made it to Pokémon GO during the game's anniversary event back in July.
It should also be pointed out that the New Nintendo 2DS XL Poké Ball edition will go great along with Ash's Pikachu, and that goes double for the New Nintendo 2DS XL Pikachu edition, but it's unfortunately available only in Japan.
