Casual movie fans may not know it, but reshoots are an everyday part of film making. While it's easy to assume that reshoots are always a bad thing, in reality, going back to make a scene work or adding in a new shot can really help a film. Reshoots are more about taking the time to make sure a movie is as good as it can be than a sign that something has gone wrong during production.
Let's hope that's the case here: director Joss Whedon has asked that the primary cast of The Avengers: Age of Ultron make themselves available for reshoots early next year. For two weeks in January, the team will shoot additional scenes for the upcoming Marvel project, though no clues as to what the contents of the scenes are have been given.
A report from Daily Mail has revealed that Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Tom Hiddleston among others have all been asked to return to Pinewood Studios in London. Given the studio's reputation for special effects work, it's easy to assume that some of the film's more effects-heavy moments will be the subject of the reshoots, but there's no way of knowing unless someone on the team confirms it (or, like most movie news today, it gets leaked).
The same report also states that the third and fourth Avengers films - titled Infinity War - will be shot back to back. It makes sense, considering Marvel has already revealed that Infinity War will be split into two films, but those movies are so far away that it's hard to predict any of what will happen.
Marvel obviously has big plans for The Avengers - after all, the first film was so successful that it continues to print money for the company even to this day. It wouldn't make sense for Marvel to start slacking for the second film, and it certainly wouldn't be in line with Joss Whedon's style.
Even so - let's all hope that these reshoots are the good kind...
