Xbox One X Limited Edition For Launch Leaks: Project Scorpio No Longer Just A Codename For The Console

Project Scorpio, the codename used by Microsoft for the Xbox One X before it was officially unveiled at E3 2017, is also the name of a limited edition version of the world's most powerful console.

The information was leaked through listings by at least two retailers in Germany, as spotted by XboxDynasty.de.

Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition Leaked

The listings spotted by XboxDynasty.de were for a console known as the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition, paying homage to the Xbox One X's codename.

Leaked images of the Xbox One X special edition show "Project Scorpio" branding written both on the controller and on the console, with an all-black design and a stippled texture on the console. The listings also say that the device will have an internal storage of 1 TB and that there will only be limited quantities for the unique console.

If the leak turns out to be true, Microsoft will be doing the same thing for the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition as what it did when the Xbox One was launched in June 2013. The Xbox One Day One Edition came with "Day One 2013" embossed on the controller, along with a unique Xbox Live achievement.

The Xbox One Day One Edition was only available in limited quantities and was only available for customers who either preordered the Xbox One or were lucky enough to find the special edition in retail stores. The Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition will also likely be mostly available through preorders, with limited stock sent out to partner retail companies.

How To Buy The Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition

There will likely be no difference in the hardware itself for the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition compared with the regular Xbox One X, but hardcore Xbox fans will still likely want to get their hands on the limited edition console as a collector's item, and perhaps even just for bragging rights.

Microsoft has not yet officially announced the Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition, but it is widely believed that the company will launch preorders for the Xbox One X at the upcoming Gamescom, which will be held from Aug. 22 to Aug. 26 in Cologne, Germany. The Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition, if it is real, will likely be officially announced at the annual video game event, along with its price and other important details.

Xbox head Phil Spencer hinted last month that Xbox One X preorders are set to start very soon. There is no question that the device is indeed the world's most powerful console, but it remains to be seen whether Xbox One X sales will go well enough to close the gap opened up by the PlayStation 4.
