Xbox One gamers will soon be able to customize their home screen through a planned update that will soon be released for the console.
The update, which is now available for Alpha Ring members of the Xbox One Insiders program, uses Microsoft's new Fluent Design platform to overhaul the console's user interface.
Customized Xbox One Home Screen
The update that will launch a customizable Xbox One home screen was announced by Mike Ybarra, Xbox Platform Engineering corporate VP, through an Xbox Wire post.
Ybarra said that the next major update that will cover both the Xbox One and Windows 10 will make the gaming experience "more fun, personalized, and social than ever."
The first thing that Xbox One Insiders will notice upon installing the update is the new Xbox One home screen, designed to focus on "speed, customization, and expression." Players will be able to add their favorite games and best friends to the home screen through the new Add to Home option that appears when pressing the Menu button. The option creates new blocks of content on the home screen that can be moved around or deleted depending on the preference of the user.
The blocks that are added to the Xbox One home screen will also evolve over time. For example, games added by the user to the home screen will also pull in content such as an Activity Feed post from its developer, suggested Achievements, and many more.
The development team has also consolidated the Home, Social, and My Games and Apps into one dashboard to eliminate the long splash screens between the pages, while promising more types of content blocks to be released in the future.
Other Contents Of Next Major Xbox One Update
The next major Xbox One update does not only introduce a customized home screen though. For example, the Guide will move from a vertical arrangement to a horizontal one, with an action center that houses links to things such as System Settings.
The Community tab on the home screen has also been redesigned to show more things at once. Users will also be able to customize the contents of the Community tab through filters.
The update also makes changes to the Windows 10 by placing a switch on the Game Bar to toggle Game Mode. The Game Bar will also add more audio options for broadcasting through Mixer.
Xbox One Update Release Date
Ybarra, however, did not reveal a specific date for the rollout of the planned Xbox One update, only stating that it will arrive later this year.
These changes are not the only things that Xbox One gamers can look forward to though, as more new features are in the pipeline as the launch of the Xbox One X draws nearer.
