Those who have been eager to feel what wearing a smartwatch feels like but have been put off by the high prices of the wrist wearables can take advantage of this year's holiday shopping promos to pick up an LG G Watch for $79.99.
Best Buy has slashed down the regular price of the LG G Watch by $150, taking it down from $229.99 to $79.99. The deal also comes with $50 store credits for Google Play, which allows buyers to get $50 worth of apps, games, movies, TV shows and books from the Play Store until Jan. 31, 2015. Buyers will receive an email containing a promo code that they can activate online to get their free content.
As of press time, Best Buy's website says it has run out of stock of both titan black and white gold models, although some Reddit members say some Best Buy stores still carry the white gold models in stock with the $50 gift card also available. For stores who no longer have the smartwatch in stock, some users suggest ordering from their local Best Buy store and have the watch shipped for free to their doorstep in five to seven days.
One user, nicknamed RandomActsofFacts, says he was able to lock in the $79.99 price and still receive the $50 Google Play store credit, with the credit code indicated in the receipt.
However, for those who can't get the LG G Watch for $79.99, Google Play also offers a discount on the smartwatch, although the offer is not as attractive as one buyer can get from Best Buy. Starting midnight of Black Friday until Cyber Monday, online shoppers can buy the LG G Watch for $99 for those living in the United States and £79 in the United Kingdom.
That is admittedly $20 more than what buyers would have to pay if they bought it at Best Buy, but it is still $130 off the device's regular price. Buyers can also receive the $50 in Google Play store credits if they buy the LG G Watch from Google Play.
The LG G Watch is by no means one of the hottest smartwatches out there. In fact, LG has put out the G Watch R, a newer Android Wear smartwatch that offers more than the LG G Watch's basic features. Still, for users who want to dip their toes in Android Wear, the LG G Watch is a great way to see what all the fuss over smartwatches is all about, and this year's deals also make it a good bargain not to miss out on.
The voice-activated LG G Watch has a 2.2-inch touchscreen LCD and a built-in pedometer that tracks the wearer's steps. Like its successor, the G Watch R, the LG G Watch receives notifications coming from a connected Android phone's apps and provides suggestions about things such as weather and traffic forecasts. LG claims up to two days of battery life in standby mode on the 400 mAh battery or up to 28 hours during heavy use.
