Google didn't turn on the hype machine for this weekend's holiday shopping craze, but Google Play is offering a host of Cyber Monday deals for a variety of products, including the newest Nexus devices, a list of Android Wear smart watches, and movies and apps.
Buyers can get the Nexus 9 tablet and the 6-inch Nexus 6 smartphone on Google Play to receive a $50 credit for Google Play content, including movies, games and apps. Once the devices are shipped, Google will send an email containing a promo code that they can use until it expires on Jan. 31.
Other devices eligible for the $50 store credit include the LG G Watch, which is also discounted from its original price of $229 to only $99 for Cyber Monday. It's not the shiniest new smartwatch in town, but the LG G Watch is a good option for anyone looking to get their first wrist wearable. Also available is the LG G Watch R, which sells for the original price of $299 and with $50 worth of Google Play credit.
The $250 Moto 360, $250 Sony SmartWatch 3, $199 Samsung Gear Live and the $199 Asus ZenWatch are also available with the same $50 store credit for Google Play content.
As of this writing, however, Google Play has run out of stock of the Nexus 6 and the LG G Watch, but it is likely that Google will replenish its stocks, so shoppers are encouraged to visit the website every now and then.
Google is also taking $10 off its $35 Chromecast, making it only $25 and throwing in $20 worth of Google Play movie credits. The Nest smart thermostat is also available with a $50 discount, cutting back its original $249 price down to $199.
On the content side, buyers can purchase more than 75 movies, hand-picked by Google Play editors, costing $10 or less. The movies span a variety of genres and include recent titles such as How to Train Your Dragon and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Academy Award winners such as Inception, The Blind Side and True Grit.
In addition, Android users also get up to 50 percent in discounts on a huge list of games and up to 90 percent off on select apps. Call of Duty: Strike Team, for instance, is only $3.99. Worms 3 also gets a price drop from its regular $4.99 to only $1.
Lock screen app Go Locker Pro also receives a $10 discount for Black Friday through Cyber Monday, costing only $9.99 instead of the regular $19.99, while Go Launcher Pro is down from $5.99 to $2.99. Office Suite 8 Pro, which is available regularly for $14.99, now costs less than a dollar.
