Samsung Galaxy S8 Active Leaked In Photos: Is It A Good Alternative To The Galaxy Note 8?

The Galaxy Note 8 is the Samsung device that is filling up the headlines, but leaked images of the Galaxy S8 Active show that there are two upcoming Samsung smartphones that are worth waiting for.

Samsung is expected to finally unveil the Galaxy Note 8 on Aug. 23 in an Unpacked event in New York City. However, for Samsung fans who are looking for alternatives, the Galaxy S8 Active is likely the best option.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active Leaked Images

The Galaxy S8 Active, the rugged version of Samsung's current flagship smartphone until the Galaxy Note 8 is launched, appeared in May through an image from the Wireless Power Consortium. The smartphone was also accidentally confirmed by Samsung last month when the Galaxy S8 Active was listed in the company's official Knox website.

While there is still no release date for the Galaxy S8 Active, its launch is likely drawing nearer. A user from the AC forums got his hands on a unit of the smartphone and has posted pictures of the device while also answering certain questions.

The user claimed to be a friend of a Samsung employee in San Francisco, which is how he was able to acquire a Galaxy S8 Active. He has since deleted his thread on Reddit that contained the information about the Galaxy S8 Active, but its pictures and details have already propagated online.

The images show what many customers expect from an Active smartphone of Samsung, with a polycarbonate body and sides made of metal for increased durability. Further strengthening the construction of the smartphone and reducing the risk of damage are a flat 5.8-inch display, scratch protection, and thickness that is 1.5 times more compared to the Galaxy S8.

The battery of the Galaxy S8 Active is also shown to have a capacity of 4,000 mAh, which is 1,000 mAh higher than the capacity of the Galaxy S8's battery.

Previous Active smartphones, however, featured physical home buttons and capacitive keys for added durability. For the Galaxy S8 Active, it appears that Samsung decided to do away with them. The reprogrammable Active key has also been replaced with a dedicated Bixby button.

Galaxy S8 Active vs Samsung Galaxy Note 8

The Galaxy S8 Active will carry the same specifications as the Galaxy S8, which means that the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 will be more impressive in terms of what's under the hood. However, for users who are always outdoors or are simply always clumsily dropping their smartphones, the Galaxy S8 Active is the perfect alternative.

In addition, the Galaxy S8 Active is expected to continue the tradition of Samsung's Active devices only offered under AT&T, which could be a deal breaker for Samsung fans who prefer other carriers.
