Samsung Galaxy S8 Sales Going Strong, Outselling Galaxy S7 By 15 Percent

There has been some recent speculation that Samsung Galaxy S8 sales have stalled and is less successful than the Galaxy S7, its predecessor.

Upon launch, critics raved about the Galaxy S8, praising its massive Infinity Display and powerful internals, though also not without criticizing Samsung for some pretty suspect design decisions, such as the fingerprint placed close to the camera. Still, the phone was off to a great start, breaking preorder records for the company.

A week ago, report came out suggesting the Galaxy S8 was no longer surpassing Galaxy S7 sales. Those reports claimed that the flagship was lagging behind. The claims surprised many, although given the Galaxy S8's higher price point, it's not tally impossible.

Is The Galaxy S8 Lagging Behind The Galaxy S7?

But Samsung's mobile division chief has now refuted the claims. During a visit to Taiwan last week, Samsung mobile business president DJ Koh confirmed that the Galaxy S8 continues to outsell the Galaxy S7. What's more, combined Galaxy S8 sales are actually 15 percent higher than the Galaxy S7 based on the same number of days they've spent in the smartphone market.

Koh didn't provide any concrete sales numbers, however, but did say he's expecting sales performance of the two handsets to be maintained throughout the latter half of 2017. Koh also revealed recently that Samsung will announce the Galaxy Note 8 in August and release it sometime in September.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8

The Note 8 will be the direct successor to the ill-fated Note 7, poised to become the company's most powerful handset thus far. Rumors suggest the phone will have 6 GB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, among other things.

The release of the Note 8, however, will likely affect Galaxy S8 sales, as the Note lineup of phone is usually seen as the more powerful of the two main handsets Samsung releases each year.

Other Galaxy Note 8 rumors point to a fingerprint scanner at the back of the device, which some users might not grow to like. Details about the phone remain slim, however, which is pretty unusual for a phone that's expected to be unveiled next month. Some claim it'll cost more than $1,000, which if true, definitely means Samsung will dress this phone up with the most premium specs.

The Note 8 is expected to compete with Apple's 10th-anniversary iPhone, tentatively named the iPhone 8, which rumors say will sport a bezel-less OLED screen. As usual, however, take all rumors with a grain of salt.
