Despite being a relatively new IP, Splatoon has rapidly become one of Nintendo's most popular franchises, particularly in Japan. What better way to curb that popularity further and make an animated TV show out of it? Well, that's exactly what's happening.
Because of the game's immense following, the Inklings who populate the charming shooter have gone on to appear in their own manga series, with Squid Sisters Callie and Marie even holding a live concert Niconico Tokaigi last year. Now, a Splatoon-inspired anime is in the works, set to premiere next month.
Splatoon Anime Premieres August
CoroCoro Comic, the publishers behind the Splatoon manga, has officially announced that it will soon launch a Splatoon anime via its YouTube channel. Debuting Aug. 12, the animated series is based on the current manga series, which follows the Blue Inklings as they engage in Turf Wars against opponents. CoroCoro Comic has yet to confirm if it plans to include English subtitles when the anime launches, although folks fluent in both languages should just as easily translate them should there be no subtitles available.
It's either that or you have to learn Japanese in a month, which you might find impossible. Official English subtitles are already slightly unlikely, so we're assuming voice-over is also out of the question. That said, CoroCoro may still surprise its U.S. fans with both.
Splatoon 2
In recent Splatoon news, Splatoon 2 for the Switch just had its first SplatFest event this weekend, offering players to some action-packed scenes between Team Ice Cream and Team Cake. Nintendo also revealed more information about the game in a recent Nintendo Direct broadcast.
Splatoon 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Splatoon for the Wii U, launches on the Switch on July 21, a little more than a month after Nintendo released Arms, its new fighting-style franchise that features characters with extendable arms. Nintendo seem to be parsing its big-name titles on a monthly basis, having released Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in March, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in April, Arms in June, and Splatoon 2 later this July. Another main franchise entry, Super Mario Odyssey, will come out this October.
Splatoon 2 features better graphics than its predecessor, in addition to several improvements. It launches alongside Nintendo's Switch Online mobile companion app, which will let players access certain online functions such as voice chat and a stat-tracking service called SplatNet 2.
