Not even a week after Nintendo officially released The Master Trials DLC for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the speedrunning community are already attempting to beat the game's new content as fast as possible.
A Canadian speedrunner, Loloup, has achieved such a feat, completing the entire Trial of the Sword in just over an hour.
Breath Of The Wild: Trial Of The Sword Speedrun
Those completely oblivious to the newly released DLC should know that Trial of the Sword includes a main challenge that spans 60 enemy-laden floors, split into three parts. To make an understatement, the trial itself already appears quite difficult as it stands, but made more unforgiving because the game strips players of their food, weapons, and other items before attempting the challenge.
Needless to say, the game's new content isn't exactly a walk in the park, making Loloup's one-hour play-through deserving of recognition. Even more impressive is the fact that strategies that may have worked in the main game rely on certain items — ones which players won't find at the beginning of Trial of the Sword.
Of course, someone out there could already be trying to beat Loloup's record time at this moment, and that'll happen, of course. But Loloup has nevertheless set the bar high for other players to follow — or usurp. As other players try to have a crack at Trial of the Sword and develop various strategies for beating the game as fast as possible, it's likely Loloup's speedrun could drop to less than an hour, or even lesser than that.
Loloup Has Already Beaten His Own Record
In fact, the Loloup has already managed to beat his own record, completing Trial of the Sword in just 45 minutes.
"I decided to not handicap myself anymore by only using 13 heart pieces and 0 stamina upgrade and it worked out super well," the player said, in reference to his new record. "This speedrun is way more fun with a lot of upgrades."
One of the most crucial elements in Breath of the Wild is arguably weapons, because they all break at some point. Thus, the game requires excellent inventory management skills, so the player at any given time always has the best tools at their disposal.
Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
The Master Trials DLC comes as Breath of the Wild's first expandable content, and it costs $20. It brings a new gameplay mode called Master Mode, the completely bonkers Trial of the Sword challenge, a couple new tools, and some new outfits and armor.
Beyond those, the DLC contains a lot of enjoyable post-game content, in addition to nostalgic nods to past Zelda games peppered throughout. It's decidedly a must-have for any Breath of the Wild player looking for an extra challenge.
Breath of the Wild launched March 3 on the Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
